Girls in Politics Initiative

The Girls in Politics Initiative (“GIP”) is an international civic education program created and administered by the Political Institute for Women. Our GIP programs introduce girls ages 8 to 17 to politics, policy, the work of the United States Congress, parliamentary governments and the work of the United Nations. We host GIP programs in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Educational, social and political organizations may also book a private and/or customized GIP program. Meet With An Naval Academy Student (CSA opportunity)

Calling all CSA leaders:  See below for an opportunity to have your girls meet and talk with a Naval Academy student.

---

I wanted to reach out on behalf of my school, I am currently a sophomore at the United States Naval Academy. I graduated from North Penn High School in 2015, and I will be majoring in English as well as minoring in Spanish here. I am also a member of the varsity cross country/ track team at the Academy. Upon graduation, I am hoping to service select Marine Ground and transfer into an intelligence or logistics branch.
I have been selected to participate in an admissions program to visit local area schools before Thanksgiving break. I was hoping to plan a visit with Troop #565 or any other troop in the area to talk about the Naval Academy and what it has to offer for any interested girls.
I will be home the 21st - 24th, the three days before Thanksgiving, to visit schools and meet with prospective candidates. But any other time will work depending on when the group meets. The meeting can be super casual and I can fit it into any format that would be convenient for the girls. I am mostly looking to talk with them, explain what I do, and answer any questions they have - academy related or not.
Some of the types of meetings we can host are:
- One on one meetings with interested girls
- Group meeting with the program
- I can speak at an already scheduled event
Please let me know if any of these would be a possibility to set up, or if I should contact someone else about this. I wasn't positive on who exactly who contact about a meeting, so feel free to redirect me if needed.

Very Respectfully,
Alixandra R. Valenti

Member Services Issues

A note from GSEP:

Please share with your units that we are aware that customers are not receiving confirmation emails for girls. We have been in touch with the company that handles it and are trying to resolve the issue. You can send an email requesting a confirmation(although it may take a while to get an email back), take a screen shot of the page saying she is registered, or log back in and print a membership card if you want something to send. I think at this point, we may just have to take the volunteer’s word that they have seen the girl is registered whether it be online or in a roster.

Troop transfers and financial aid are also taking much longer than expected and a solution is being worked on. Also, if you email memberservices@gsep.org it may take a while to get a response.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for these issues and we thank you for your patience while we work through this.

Working as a team, using the GPS, they will follow the coordinated to locate camouflaged containers (caches) and solve the puzzles inside.

The afternoon session is for the Older Girls and is designed to meet the requirements of the Field Day Badge. Patterned after the popular television show The Amazing Race, teams will use handheld GPS units and a set of clues to race to the finish line. Along the way scouts will encounter and develop puzzles and group initiatives including: historic mysteries, science puzzles, and the great storytelling challenge, among others.

Cookie Booth Information

Tonight is Cookie Booth Night at the SU Meeting!  Please remember to come or to send your TCM, as booths will be assigned to those in attendance.

As we enter Cookie season, please remember the following about booths:

No troops can apply for a booth anywhere without going through Beth.  If you want to apply somewhere the SU doesn't utilize, Beth must give you approval. Booths outside
of our SU must be checked on with the booth manager in that SU. At your church - Beth
just needs to be aware that you're doing it.  We're waiting for approvals from several locations that we've been checking on for weeks, and  just found out someone has gone to one of them on their own. This makes Beth's job harder and we are hoping that we don't lose the booth (one of our big selling spots).

Questions about booths?  Contact Beth.
